Growing through Life

A good work ethic is essential to stand out and excel in your career but keep an eye on the bigger picture and your ultimate goals too. If you are not happy working hard at what it is that you’re doing, it really isn’t beneficial for your life’s journey. I’ve been in the very situation where I knew what I was doing was cool for that time but in order for me to truly get to where I strived to be in my life, I had to make decisions that betted on me.

I have been a part of the fashion industry for about eight years now.  I have interned at fashion showrooms, with crazy eyewear designers , worked with fashion stylists on a variety of projects from television, commercial, beauty, editorial, and live events. I am grateful for all of the experiences that empowered me. I worked hard for the skills that I have and I only wish to be able to put in the work to continue to grow. Fashion is not easy and for anyone who says it is you obviously haven’t worked in the industry.

I have a pretty clear idea of what I want to pursue in life, whether that takes me longer than whoever else is not my business. You should be so occupied with your journey and progressing in your life. Life is a journey that’s different for us all. It’s unique and different for each of us but yet we can connect and share in commonalities. Living your life and maintaining a strong work ethic is a competitive advantage to have that will definitely help you grow through life. Sometimes we get so invested in this place we are in life that we forget the bigger picture or when things don’t go as we thought they woulda, coulda, shoulda, as my mother would say we become upset and frustrated.

Working hard in your life, sometimes you don’t realize that you’re holding onto things that God wants you to let go in order to move forward in your life. You want to hold onto to all your successes. Wear them like a badge of pride and I get it, but life has its way of showing you otherwise at times. Maybe it’s to humble you or maybe it’s to motivate you and keep you hungry for future wins. You’re busy trying to gather all your shit that you don’t realize what’s holding you down in the first place. You have to take time to reassess what’s happening in your life that you can control. Take inventory and make the proper adjustments.

When you work hard, sometimes it can be difficult to detach yourself from your successes. You wonder well why did I just put all this work in not to be able to carry the successes around with me? Well actually you do! In fact your direct choices for what you want to bring into your new chapter are a huge part of your future successes. Recognizing opportunities and learning from experience. Being aware of how you want to grow. Bringing bitterness from your previous chapter into your new one. Having doubts and negative thoughts about your new chapter. These are all different but not even a fraction of choices that you have when staring a new chapter but it’s up to you which you choose to take along with you. Here are a few of my favorite take alongs.

• connections! Your network is your net worth so it’s super important to make sure you’re making valuable connections.

• new thought processes and ideas that you’ve accumulated from experiences in your previous chapter

Clients – someone who you provide a service to in exchange for compensation and usually loyalty.

So make sure that you are aware of your possessions and the things you’re holding on to. Figure out what you need and what you don’t. Experience is the best teacher so buckle up for the ride and be present and willing to progress for your future.
