Anxiety

26 on the 24th of September. I had to subtract the years to compute the math. I was a little overwhelmed. What made this year so different from the one before? You know they say 25 is one of the big ones, but in true anti-norm girl fashion 26 was the one that did it for me. I had always knew who I wanted to be and for as long as I can remember tried to keep that vision in a safe place. Here at 26, I was not living up to the life that I created for myself in my head. I was a slave to my own thoughts, a victim of my own doubts, and ultimately living in a twilight zone. I knew that in order to be successful I had to be me consistently. All the while I had the resources all around me I never thought to apply it to my life. I even earned my business degree to add more value to my existing skills and be more marketable. All this valuable time spent on tasks and activities that were to better myself were just bullet points on a resume.

Don’t let anyone make the last decisions in your life. Friends and family are supposed to be proud of you and give encouraging words of praise when you are doing good things. The point that’s missing is what are you doing? And why are they proud of you for doing it? A lot of times parents baby their children and this doesn’t always create the best outcome for the child socially in the world because they look for this in people who don’t give a shit about them. Work smarter not harder is a major gem. I know any honest and passionate about what they’re doing person doesn’t want to cheat the hustle. That is not what I am saying. I am saying figure out the business that you want to create or be a part of and then create a goal to progress yourself and the business in some way. You should be challenging yourself in new ways. This leads to another major key which is challenging yourself in a healthy and ethical way. Life is crazy I know this, but it doesn’t have to be. Just as you woke up this morning, you have to take that same energy and go do the things you need to do in order to be productive and beneficial to your business. First things first you need to be in the right state of mind and body. Make sure you are getting enough rest and eating a healthy balanced meal three times a day. I’m no fitness guru so I can’t tell anyone to go to the gym. I do know that working out makes you feel great and relieves stress. I miss it but it is something you make time for and I won’t right now. This feels great. I am 26 and I don’t have to be nice or submissive. I am a grown ass woman. Something ironic about growing older is that you start to care less of what others want and think! You really can own who you are. It’s like “Yeah mfer you talked sh^t about in my high school but look at your ugly self now.” LOL The 25 year old me still hasn’t worn off. Petty as hell. But on some real…

I have come so far and I am so blessed. No one can steal my joy or happiness because GOD knows my heart. I just want more of whatever is in store for me and I hope to acquiesce in more life, more love, and blessings. So you see this is my true thought. My anxieties. I’ve shared my soul, but when I come back to reality I know that I am such a GODdess and the world is mine for the taking. I have to learn to practice patience and experientially saying that growing older is the cure. Thank you Universe for another year to grow.

Tackling Time

I am a firm believer of the universe manifesting what one puts out into it. Looking back on my primary school days I never fathomed the significance of my classmates receiving “Time and Attendance” awards and not me. Now it has come full circle and honestly I am so thankful for the growth. Now as a young professional, the award was literally like your golden ticket to the Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory so to speak. Back then we knew if we were disobedient an disruptive to the class there would be consequences. Incomplete homework was forbidden and a huge red letter “I” on your progress report was your worst nightmare. So for the most part you managed those things that kept you from being scolded but time wasn’t the first matter on your mind.

Most of us alike myself can recall vividly our parents annoying morning rituals. Coming to your room, turning the lights on and greeting us with style. Get up, get up my sweet! As annoying as it was back then, I relied on that. Now as an adult, I understand it wasn’t the best way because it created a source of dependency that morphed into a cycle hard to break. Yes my fellow stylish ladies and gentlemen, the first step to overcoming is recognizing the stuff that stinks in your life.

Facing yourself and checking your life is super important. It is essential to your growth in all aspects of your life. I know that there are many dynamics of time management and it can be very complex. For me I start with an early start to my day. This allows me to meditate, reflect, and plan for the day ahead. It is truly one of those life’s little blessings that mean so much. Having time for self is super important and is a form of self-care. With so much going on in the world, we have to remember to cultivate and create value for ourselves. There is nothing I love more than time dedicated to my business and bettering myself. It’s so much more fulfilling when you can sit down and develop ideas and tap into your passion.

Another helpful strategy that I use is planning and allocating time for each task that I have for the day. Waking up early gives you the power to take ownership of your life. There is no reason you should ever feel like you’re being robbed of your precious time. Life isn’t predictable and things out of your control may happen but if you practice these helpful tips for time management the universe may seem to bend at your will.

A 2008 study from Harvard biologists C. Randler showed that those “early risers felt more control over their lives from planning short term and long term goals, have easier commutes, anticipate problems and solve them more efficiently. These are just a few ways that waking up early to manage your time can benefit your life. Another trick to tackling time management is to map out time for everything you have to do that day. This way you are focused, working efficiently, and less overwhelmed when you have a lot of different things to do. Being on time is another component of time management and is just as important as the other gems I have shared.

Showing up on time means five minutes early. It also means that you value someone else’s time just as much as you value your own. This is an important trait to have in business because you want to be viewed as professional, credible, and build lasting relationships. As a business woman waking up early allows me to tackle so many tasks. I feel at ease and sure of decision making when I practice healthy time management. I am able to make the best investments for myself and my business. I no longer feel like I am sacrificing my time. I am thankful I learned how to tackle time management and you will be too.

“Your Comfort Zone will Kill You” – Phillip Plein

All the things that inspire you are the very things that will bring you success, if you stop and take the time to get inspired. Sometimes we get so caught up in the reality of things that we forget that faith and dreams are a huge part of creating the life we want to live. You’re working at your job that pays the bills, life’s problems occurring nonstop, and you are exhausted. Don’t forget to find your inner peace! A lot of times it’s so much easier to relish in your struggles than changing your mindset and searching for the light at the end of the tunnel.

Having the right mindset will make sure you are equipped for anything life brings you. Everyone goes through hardships in life, it’s a part of life. Focus on what you want out of life, what you need to do to get there over time, and surround yourself with a solid team. A solid team could be your roommates, friends who share your passion, your manager, or anyone who contributes to your growth on your journey of success.

Having a solid team is major when working towards accomplishing your dreams because there will be times when you want to give up and run as far as way as possible. Good friends are supportive, stimulating, and never pass judgement. They add to your ideas, and even inspire new ones.

With all these things, you are ready to step outside of your comfort zone and do all those things that keep you up at night. Go after what you want in this life. If you aren’t sure where to start make small strides. Everyone wants to be the best at what they do that sometimes being the best version of YOURSELF gets lost in translation. Stepping out of your comfort zone means asserting yourself, taking that extra mile on projects you come up with, and doing things that will put you ahead of the game. It isn’t easy doing such brave acts of professionalism but not doing so can keep you in the same place for the rest of your life. Don’t let your comfort zone kill you! Life has so much more to offer.

Maintaining your Best Self

A place where the hustlers come to hustle and the dreamers get left behind. NYC is a place like no other. It just sucks you in. Whether its the gritty cobblestone streets of Soho filled with all the good vibes and killer fashion or the snooty conservatively dressed in household name designer residents of Upper East Side, there’s a place for any one. A beautiful energy of the unknown is what thrives in this city.   The ironic beauty of the city is that it is indeed a grotesque place, but there is no place like New York City. It is that uniqueness that draws people in. So take a lesson from this great place and work to become a better version of your amazing, unique, smart self!

Here are a few tips to help maintain your best self :

Positive Affirmations – Say it loud and proud! Positive affirmations are magical. It is a ritual where you repeat uplifting and inspiring phrases over and over again to yourself. I usually complete mine first thing in the morning after I say a prayer, but really it is a powerful tool ready for use whenever needed. Sometimes you have to be your biggest cheerleader especially in a city like New York. My current positive affirmation is “I love money and money loves me!” I like to change it every week or so to keep a fresh perspective on where I am in my life as well as to continue the journey of growth. Start now! You will be happy that you did.

Control what you consume – This tip applies to all aspects of your life. Whether eating a healthy balanced diet, cutting back on binge watching the latest reality television  episode, or even refraining from engaging in draining and negative conversations. If you come across the last scenario, it can be tricky only if you let it. Energy is a very powerful thing. It can change your entire outlook on your day, and we all know how valuable a good 24hrs can be. A key fact when rejecting bad vibes is maintaining your good energy and saying what you need to say when it happens. And then, that’s it! No need to harvest anything less than your best energy.  My newest efforts at keeping a clear and concise planner has also been a huge self help for me. Staying on top of all the different areas of your life deserve conscious awareness. It can get a bit cliche’ but it is true what you put in is what you will get out. All #bossbabe #foodies, this next one’s for you. Cue Joe & The Juice, Dr. Shmood, and See by Chloe. These are a few of my fave Soho restaurants that have a great to go service, healthy, and delicious. They’re also vegan friendly. Try them out while your out in Soho.

Keep a journal planner – Again I can’t say this enough. Keeping a journal planner or notebook is the best way to have control of your life and not be overwhelmed. Of course things will happen unexpectedly, but for the most part with a planner you will be ahead of the game. Write little reminders, deadlines for projects, or even when a friend is visiting from out of town. No surprises here! Proactively using a planner will allow you to prepare, plan, and execute the steps to your best life. See mine below :

I snagged this Kate Spade journal at Papyrus for less than $20. A total steal! I love the cute gold stickers that come with the planner. Check out the store on Spring street for all your stationary and greeting card needs.

Be your best you and let the universe align the stars in your favor #bossbabes.
